Recently, I looked back at the amount of preparation and ground work that I have done two years ago in setting up a business. It was quite a hefty amount of work and I poured out my heart into this business venture. All these were done while I was holding a permanent normal working hours job.
Disappointingly, it never really took off but by God’s grace, I did manage to clinch a deal that paid off all my initial investment plus a couple of thousands in profit. After that, I tried many ways and means to make new sales but have been unsuccessful. I was really discouraged and wondered if I have missed God in any way or this business was purely out of my own will and by the mercy of God, He helped me to pay off my initial investment. Nevertheless at the same time, I do not believe God will allow me to go through something in vain. There must be at least something I can learn from this experience. I have been asking God many “whys” and recently I felt that God was trying to show me two things.
Jeremiah 9:23-24, “Thus says the LORD:
“ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”
Firstly, you can have all the resources on hand, you can have all the brains and even the best business plan. However things might not always turn out in the manner you thought it would be ideally no matter how hard you try. Nevertheless this does not absolve you from doing your best in whatever you set you hands on.
Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might …”
Secondly, by God’s grace all things are possible.
Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Therefore this is a good reminder to me that God is Lord and we should always depend on Him in everything we do. We need this.
