Be specific in your prayers

James 4:3, “3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

I remembered hearing stories of my friends being headhunted for jobs. They are approached by people to join their company very often in return for an attractive monetary package. In such situations, you need to be recognized by your talents and excellence of work before people get noticed and wanted you to join their company. I too was thrilled by the prospect of being headhunted. Hence I simply prayed to God to be headhunted like my friends do.

God is faithful. He answered me prayer. I received 3 job offers. 1st one was a sales position with a competitor, 2nd was a marketing communication role in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) industry and the 3rd was with a company which I cannot register. Prior to these calls I did not send any of my particulars to any headhunter agencies. I believe people passed my contact to such companies. Nonetheless I was thrilled and to a certain extent being to feel proud of myself.

However the 2nd and 3rd job offer was not relevant at all. The 3rd one which was the most promising did not materialize eventually as I have no experience in managing a sales team but most importantly I was not able to bring myself to work for a competitor against my company then. I hold sensitive information which would not be ethical for me to be in that position. There was no peace. I asked God why one moment I was brought onto cloud nine and thought that my pay day has come but the next moment it turned out that all the job offers were not suitable in one way or the other.

God then answered and taught me, “Be more specific in your prayer.”

I then prayed to be headhunted for a job that is suitable, fit my specific skill sets and does not compromise my integrity. I no longer just pray to be headhunted.

Soon, I was approached by a company who was my customer, passed 3 rounds of interview and subsequently I joined the company with a satisfied monetary package with peace in my heart.

Praise God who works in supernatural ways!
